The back story of my pets’ names[1]

In total I have four pets, being three cats and one dog. Starting with the dog, Katy is a female and she’s the oldest of all the animals I have. She is named after a singer my sister and I were obsessed with when we were younger, that is Katy Perry (I still do like her, but I think I used to like her way more when I was a kid).

Going on with the cats, Canela (Cinnamon) is a male and he’s the oldest one. He was named after his fur color and was the most boring one since it did not take that much creativity to make, besides I would say his fur looks more like cinnamon with sugar than only cinnamon.

Hercules is a male cat, the second oldest and the first pet I adopted in Portugal. My family and I decided to name him after the Greek mythological figure due to his braveness shown when he was a kitty. Normally cats have a hard time adapting to certain environments when already exists a dog in them, and at my house wasn’t any different. Therefore, Hercules instead of running away when my dog confronted him, which is a typical normal thing for cats to do, he stayed and “fought” with her. Now he is already used to her and just doesn’t care anymore when she bothers him.

Finally, my last pet is Kame. She’s a female kitty and was named after her fur color. However, it was more creative than Canela’s. In the beginning, we didn’t really know which name to give to her, so my mom asked for help from a friend. Her friend said that Kame’s fur type was called tortoiseshell and that would be cute if we named her “Kame” since it means the word turtle (カメ) in Japanese. We found it was a really cute name, in that way we took my mom’s friend’s advice and named her “Kame”.[2]
